HP / Dell / etc. laptop password help thread

I do not have a floppy either, however I have a 2.5 hd enclosure that is usb. Can I use it to build that bootable tag clearing Hard drive?

God's sake!

No CD
No Floppy
No SvcTag
No password that you know of

And now you want to create a boot USB harddrive

I say sell it faulty ! (nothing works!)

I am fixing it for a friend, I just want to use the usb case to make the bootable drive and put it back in the laptop, It will not boot from usb I tried a flash drive

Will it work?

Are you giving up on me :confused:Kimsland?

Are you giving up on me?
I don't think that old model had USB boot
But certainly try it

Actually if you can get to a command prompt (anyway possible- and I don't want to try to provide further suggestions here in the password thread for you)

Try running from any drive or anyway, of running anything externally (because I'm not sure if any external device will work at this point !) Actually I'd probably hook the drive up to a PC (using an adapter), then copy all the files to it (ie svctag) then put it back into the laptop, and get to a command prompt, and run it

Pretty sure I've covered every option available now ;)
Oh and stop replying to yourself use EDIT instead

I built the bootable Hard drive with the servicetag software on it there but it still just boots straight to the screen of death. Why does my screen of death show my service tag as *******-D35B instead of the tag that is on the bottom of my laptop? Does anyone have any other ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Ok I have a new question I believe that my laptop does not have a service tag installed, I read the README on the bootable hard drive I made it says to do this if you do not have a service tag installed.

-For Value-line systems:
Run EE-Value.exe /S=XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX is alphanumeric and all
letters are capitalized.

- For SmartStep/Smart PC 200N/250N:
Run STAG_W1.EXE /W XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX is alphanumeric and all
letters are capitalized.

- For Molokai:
Run SERTAG.exe /W XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is alphanumeric and all
letters are capitalized.

- For all other systems:
Run ASSET.COM /S XXXXXXX, where XXXXXXX is the new service tag.

Ok so my question is how do I know which one of these I have, and how to exactly set up the AUTOEXEC.BAT to boot to this when the machine starts?

Thanks in advance

First of all Kimsland thanks for all your help, but I need to ask some more. Could you show me exactly how to set up the AUTOEXEC.BAT so it will run those programs as needed. I am going to be running this from the bootable hard drive not bootdisk or floppy.

Thanks

I'm starting to think you can just run it from the command prompt
Then with Asset.com and svctag on the root of the harddrive ie C drive, just run it, ie:

C:\> Asset.com /S XXXXXXX

As for making a bootable harddrive running the command (just as above - without c:\> ) in Autoexec.bat, I don't even think it's required.
Just get to any command prompt (outside Windows of course) and run it.

So once I run that like your saying above it will let the harddrive boot? Because right now even with this harddrive formatted and ready to go it still goes to the screen of death. I just tried my bootable harddrive in another laptop i have and i works fine but for some reason it wont boot to it on this dell.

Well BSOD errors are nothing to do with this thread!
Actually creating a bootable harddrive or any info to do with it isn't either !

This thread is about help in finding the Bios password on laptops
The Asset.com programs may help in doing that
But advising on all the ins and outs of doing this, especially when you ask how to make a USB HDD boot, and questions on autoexec.bat should be posted in the appropriate forum

ie Not here

I am not asking you how to make a usb hdd boot i already got the hdd ready to go and in the laptops ide slot by doing what is in this link http://www.download.centre4service.com/hdbuild.html and I am not talking about the blue screen of death i am talking about the bios password screen that says

This computer system, #*******-D35B, is protected by a password authentication system. You cannot access the data on this computer without a correct password.

Please type in the primary or administrator password and press (enter).

That is the screen I get when I try to boot my regular laptop not usb HDD with the svctag.exe program on it. I tried this HDD in another laptop and it came right up at boot.

Sorry to bother you so much just trying to figure it out, all of the stuff I have asked about is dealing with the bios password in one way or another.

to answer your question:
It may not boot

due to the bios locking it out
Hmm, you may be going in circles
It's possible this option will not work, if you cannot get to a command prompt (on the actual faulty or locked system)

Changing service tags ideally should be done when there are no passwords present (obviously this doesn't help you) But just letting you know
