using HOST file as a defense

the attachment is a replacement for your host file located at
\windows\system32\drivers\etc\​

download and save the file,
rename it to host (removing the .newest.txt portion),
set the file to R/O; attrib +r host
move or copy to the etc\ directory above,
allow the replacement

from here on, your browser will avoid access to any site in the host file and
your system will not be redirected to a bogus server.

setting the file r/o will stop intruders from modifying the file and give you some stability in surfing

ALL entries in the attachment were managed by a blacklist service
(Spybot S&D), but if you wish, you can edit the file prior to marking it r/o.
