At the bottom right hans side of my computer where all the little icons live, there is an annoying yellow shield with an exclamation point in it that tells me Windows has updates for me. When I click on it to perform the updates, it does so, proceeds to shut down the computer, reboot, and then throws me into a terrible blue screen. I can system restore all I want, and after I can searc the internet all I want, as long as I don't try to 'update' Windows. However, when I go to shut down my computer properly, it gives me the automatic update option, and when I go to restart my computer afterward, the darn thing blue screens.
I can't just keep system restoring, I'm at the end of the rope and with no money to go to a professional. A friend suggested this site, and said that there are nice, helpful people here that will assist me. I would really like to know how to vanquish this terrible problem, as I suspect that this is some sort of virus or malware. I can run Avast scans, but I only have the free antivirus software, as this is what the people that sold me this computer installed for me.
It's a laptop, a refirbished office IBM. I don't know or think that it would make a difference what type of computer it is. Oh, and a message pops up that says something to the effect that one of my drivers is missing or not working anymore. I can't really shut my laptop down for fear of getting the blue screen. I restored it a few moments ago with no problem, and I have recently renewed my free Avast software.
