A Rocky Launch: Gamers Are Not Buying Nvidia's RTX 4080

Thats the thing, not even forced I would buy one.

Ahh, I see, then it is actually a bargain.

No, no, no, please read my first comment.
Anything that can bring me joy day in and day out for 3 or 4 years for $800 is a bargain in my opinion. Either you can afford it or you can't. But that's no reason to claim that it's a rip off.

If this hobby is too expensive in your opinion then find a new one. PC gaming is not a "right", it's a choice. Take it or leave it Bro.

Well kidz, I know it's well beneath most of your dignities to even consider it. but Newegg has an RTX-3060ti MSI "Ventus"(only 8GB though), on sale today for $430.00 w/ a free Warhammer game.
For $530.00 (after $20.00 rebate), you could have an RTX-3070

hunh^ ..?

Why would anyone buy a 3060ti for $430 when they can get a more powerful card, for less money..? Very odd that you would recommend such a garbage product to anyone... when you can pick up a 6750xt for about the same price, and it's faster than the 3070ti in many games.... and has 12GB.

And for $530 you can find a 6800xt... which beats the 3080 in many games... & ties the 3090 in some games.

Do you game..?

Try rereading my post as best you can:

I didn't "recommend" anything. Do you understand what the phrase "beneath your dignity", means?

I just linked what I saw on sale at Newegg, as a "public service announcement", for price comparison sake only..

So, as the cliche goes, "don't shoot me, I'm only the messenger.
Do you game..?
No. In fact, I've never heard the fans spin up on my 1050ti. I still don't know if they even work. I did just spring for a GTX-1660 ti, just to have it. But I would never "recommend" such a "toy" to "real gamers". I just wanted it, and since I'm a "snot nosed, woke liberal brat", my mum and dad capitulated to my whining and tantrums. And well, Christmas is just around the corner

Moving past that, I don't game, since I'm not really interested in the company I'd have to keep to do so.I know, in my heart, I'd never be able to keep up, mit das "ubermensches" (With the overmen, in English).

There new card is a rip off. Nobody (with sense) can justify this price. In Canada, they are selling for $1600-1800, throw another 10-13% tax on for most provinces.

$2000 for a GPU ? Ya no..

I'm curious what games most of you play? I haven't had any interest in a new game for a while. I play a little WOW (I'm talking Mr. Casual here). Last games I purchased and enjoyed were Stray and Half-Life Alyx.

So, I really have no need for a card. I look and it just makes me appreciate even more what I paid for my 2080 Supers.

Well, you stated that the rtx3060ti is suitable for lesser people... suggesting it was beneath you, but a decent buy for someone who can't afford a higher card.

("Beneath one's dignity" def: Suitable for someone considered less important.)

It's all just words. At the end of the day you go to bed, wake up and go back to work.. It is kind of fun when people take forum posts seriously like it's personal. We are basically all tech geeks from all over the world. I 💕 you all. 👩‍❤️‍👩👨‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍👨 😘. I think that covers all of the types???

Time to go bet bored in WOW.
Yeah, that's one game that I have NEVER wanted to play. Not because I think it isn't any good, quite the contrary. I think that it might be TOO GOOD and I've heard of people losing themselves in it. I came close enough to that with Star Wars Galaxies and Second Life.

WOW scares me.

You piqued my interest with that and I made a rather shocking discovery. There is literally no reason to buy an RTX 3070 for that price. Check this out, (I wasn't expecting this):
F1_4K-p.webp

The F1 chart was literally the only one I could find that compared the ray-tracing performance of the RX 6800 XT and the RTX 3070. With RT on, the RX 6800 XT handily beats the RTX 3070 by a 17% margin. Without RT enabled, the RX 6800 XT more than doubles this performance gap with a 35% performance advantage. Without an advantage in RT, the RTX 3070 is rendered (pardon the pun) completely irrelevant to gamers. I was shocked to see that the RX 6800 XT beat the RTX 3070 so handily with RT enabled, even if it is only at medium. At high, they may be tied which, again, is no advantage for nVidia, especially when the RTX 3070 literally gets is a$$ handed to it by the RX 6800 XT in normal gaming for $15 less.

These are both from the RTX 4080 review because I wanted something current.

Great post with tons of international research! From my own experience nvidia better wake up about making geforce rtx cards usable on windows servers if they want to keep their prices afloat during the crpyptomining debacle. I wanted to add a GPU for deep learning to my latest server (a nice dual Epyc 7282 with 256 GB 8-channel RAM and 4x2TB Kingston NVMe raid0 array in 4x4x4x4 bifurcation giving close to 10 GB/s sequential bandwidth). Best deal I found on FB marketplace was an RTX 3060 TI for 350$CA (about 265$US) from a Montreal guy who quit mining 2 months ago. I come home and put the card in the server and search and search for a server 2019 driver to get it seen by the little beast. Only to find out nvidia still has its head in its a** and not figured yet deep learning has come a long way and CUDA setup is often a lot easier in windows than linux or unix. No windows server driver for geforce rtx cards. Come on nvidia I won't run CUDA toolkit on a puny win 10 machine. Nvidia, remember your life depends on customers so treat them with lots of TLC.

Well, you stated that the rtx3060ti is suitable for lesser people... suggesting it was beneath you, but a decent buy for someone who can't afford a higher card.
A quote from, "The Boxer"", (Simon and Garfunkel": "Still a man hears what he wants to hear, and disregards the rest".

Now, let's discuss English pronouns: "your", is the 2nd person possessive.."My", is the 1st person possessive.

Thus, when I said, "beneath your dignities"", I was speaking to the group in general. After all, this discussion is all about the outrageous prices of much higher performance cards than the 3070. Specifically, the RXT 40xx series, versus AMD cards in the same performance category

If I had said, or meant, it was beneath "my dignity", I would have come straight out and said something like, "it's beneath MY< (1st person) dignity", My intent for the links was simply, "here's what Newegg has for sale, and is listing it as a 'Black Friday' deal", period. Make of it what you like, or as you will.

I'm not shy about stating my opinion. Therefore, if I meant it was beneath my dignity to buy one of theses cards, but you should, I would have said so, explicitly. Which I didn't.

I then went on to say, (In response to your question, "do you game"), was:
No. In fact, I've never heard the fans spin up on my 1050ti. I still don't know if they even work. I did just spring for a GTX-1660 ti, just to have it. Now, I got the GTX-1660 ti, brand new, at a price $60.00 less than its official release price of ,$279.00. They (Newegg), "made me an offer I couldn't refuse".

And BTW, you can read whatever you like into my self quote above. In fact, I encourage you to do so..

This has always been true but it has never mattered. Jensen is counting on people believing that they "must" have an nVidia card.
This is greatly exacerbated by the fact that after Huang realized how much people were willing to pay scalpers for the cards, (double list prices, in some cases)., He, (and perhaps rightly so), knew that he could take money out of the scalper's mouths, and put it directly into his pocket. We may not like it, but that's the way "capitalism" works.

It's also the way inflation works. Once you pay more for something, you're not likely to get it for the old price ever again.

And if I might interject a political note, it's the system at large driving up the prices. Perhaps even your next-door neighbor. Every entity passes the ripoff down the line: Manufacturer to shippers, shippers to distributors, distributors to retailers, and finally retailers to customers. We, (as consumers), are, after all, at the bottom of the food chain.

With respect to video card prices, it's the feeling of entitlement, the "need", (a euphemism for greed), and the addictive personalities, of some members of the gaming community, that has led us here. After all, "you reap what you sow".
