Latitude D520... Rustam?

I recently purchased a Latitude D520 from ebay and thought I would be able to get it running by resetting the cmos ad clearing out the passwords but it has bcome a little more involved than that. I checked out a few pages and attempted to try the shorting method described but there seems to be a lack of info on this particular model. (ie chip location) I was reading that it might be possible to have a password generated? How would I go about trying to find out if this is possible? Rustam seems to be the guru on this matter but I dont know what his criteria is for helping people as it seems to be fairly random. Any help or info would be much appreciated...especially if Rustam deems me a candidate for his help. :) Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Hi Rustam,

I work for a local government and trying to help out a police officer here. They wanted to give this laptop to their child for college. There is a bios password at the good ole' grey screen. It is a latitude D800

Service Tag#: 42GZ641-595B
Express Service Code: 8856576433

Could you help?

Thanks in advance

Scratch that. I was able to strong arm dell into giving me the primary password. It is 613ifywt. Thankfully we do millions in business with them. I really feel bad for individual consumers trying to call the general dell lines.

Hello everyone. Im currently on deployment and my Dell D620 went on the fritz. I need to reload the software to the machine but the bios is locked and cant change the boot order. Can anyone help me out??

Dell XPS M1210

I got the same problem with the grey screen and forgot the password. My service tag number is BCVWQB1. Express service code 24723794989. Can anyone help with a master password or instructions on how to jump the chip Thanks.

i thought, all people know, where they should go, for password removal :)

if you bought laptop for $100, don't be surprised if you'll have to remove password for $150. you'll win in price anyway at the end :)

Obi, yes i know about "shorting method". and still, i think, that this method is incorrect(dangerous). the most right way - is to read the eeprom, and read the password in the dump.

I doubt that you'll find password in eeprom. It is somehow calculated from ST by bios. So cracking/disassembling bios may be the right way.

emde

btw. Express code is calculated from ST, so it is not important too much I think

emde, i'm sure i can find passwords for all models which can be healed using the "shorting method".

By reading it? It would be too simple. There is software for linux that allow changing ST. Docs are not saying anything about passwords and everybody knows that if you change ST your password is changing too.

Did you tried reading it? ;>>>

emde

emde, not only reading. after reading you have to decrypt the dump to receive password.
yes. of course i readed large quantity of dell dumps. and, i can claim, that all dell notebooks, that you can may clear with the "shorting method", contain passwords in eeprom dump.

I´ve been reading most of the posts and I´d like to get some help with my computer if possible...

I don't have the gray screen.

Instead, I can enter the BIOS pressing F2 but it asks for the password (which I don't know) and then it asks for the hdd password (I don't know either)

could you please try to help me. what can be done in this case?

thanks in advance for your time and help.

Goto my site and use the DST software this will clear the service tag and reset it thus removing the password

Bollox the short method is safe to do providing you dont over short the chip, as for reading the eeprom, oh yeah you need the software, the cable and a spare PC.

Nope the software on my site is DOS based and easy to use, if you clear the service tag then you clear the password

Close but dont hit F2 you hit FN and X at the maintenace mode

Will you guys bother to read the site before deciding to pay, its not hard to short the chip out once you find it, so far 55000 people have visited the site and i have over a hundred emails from people who have mailed me to say thanks for the help.

emde, post here eeprom dump in binary format and i'll tell you the password.
i'll even tell from which address it starts. the rest is up to you, to think in which method the password is encrypted.
