Dell BIOS password removal

Poopy....

....alright, after much browsing and inspecting my motherboard with a magnifying glass, i found the chip I needed too. For my Inspiron 1300 it was a 24C04N chip, found on the top of the MB, bottom left (under some tape) as you face the screen.

After several tries to short the leads (3 an 6) I finally got the Maintenance screen to come up. Whoo HOO! I hurridly shut the machine off and rebuilt the laptop. But after I turned it back on, there was that damned GSD again!

What did I forget to do?

Password on 2650

There is a good possibility that the 2650 is one of the Dell laptops that will clear by disconnecting/unsoldering/removing the CMOS battery and leaving it unpowered overnight(no main battery installed or AC Adapter plugged in. I had a sister model 2600 board that a friend sent to me because he could not find the EEProm Chip on it either. I had removed the board from the plastics and unsoldered the CMOS Battery to reset the BIOS Defaults and the boot order to default settings, then look for the EEProm chip on the following day. To my pleased surprise, the password was gone on the following day without doing any thing else, so I resoldered the CMOS Battery and reassembled it. It was OK so I returned it to him.

You're Right, no body on the internet knows if inspiron 2650 has or not the eeprom, now if I decided to unsoldering the cmos battery which brand or type of soldering tool should I use?. I'm not an expert soldering but I may became in to it.

Also sorry for the website that has to be shutdown. it helped me out with a previuos laptop.

Thank you.

A 25 watt iron with a fairly sharp conical point is what I used

hey guys, I´m a little bit amusingly to see everyone is posting his service tag here. You should give this to a 100% trustworthy person only, because the original owner will be found within a few seconds. So ever keep your service tag save.

HDD Password

8vwreglh is this is all i enter for the password as ive tried but if there is another way let me know
g and q, 1 and l are frequently confused and holding down the shift key means you entered an * for the 8

Another way possibly; What is your drive brand and type from the label? This service I use for some HDDS cracked an 80gb for a fellow Techspot user for $9.95 2 days ago, and by online connection. They have just one problem; they can not crack Hitachis and the older IBMs

razik, did you check that service-tag and password that i sent to you?
remember: i'll send you three(3) master passwords if you check that service-tag and password
:)

....after days of shorting that damnable chip and screaming everytime I saw the MM screen and then watched it go away and the GSD come back, I did a little more research on the net... came upon a wierd odd comment by someone on another site...

Check "dell backdoor bios recovery" on google.

Ok. I tried it. It said that some computers have a generic backdoor password that will work no matter what the password is set too. Dell's is (by coincidence) "dell". So I turned on the offending machine, Inspiron B130/1300, typed in "dell" at the GSD, (prayed a little) and hit CTRL-ENTER. Poof! I was in....

WTFHIGOH????? LOL....I can't believe that someone may actually be making money on this....if in fact it is that easy for all these Dell's, which it may not be.... but still, makes you chuckle on the inside doesn't it?

Phu

...After I got past the GSD, I went into the setup program. From there I was able to reset all the passwords to nothing. ALL THE PASSWORDS INCLUDING THE HDD PASSWORD!!!! Just by using the generic "dell" password.

Now, I find it kind of funny that "dell" worked for everything, INCLUDING the hdd password. So, either "dell" was the password to begin with (for everything, which would just be wierd and stupid), or "dell" was indeed that backdoor password.

I'm not saying I am right guys, just that it worked for me, and it definately can't hurt to try it.

In fact, it probably won't work on newer models (but try it anyway and let me know) but for my Inspiron 1300, it worked great!

phubar, probably you just typed that password that's been set on this machine. master passwords always different for different laptops from dell. even those laptops will be one model but with diferent service-tags.

So what did you mean when you said that you can find out who the owner is from the service tag? You mean from Dell? That would be great! I need to find out who the original owner of this d520 is so I can transfer ownership and get my password reset. Anyone had any luck with d520's and resetting them?
