AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D Review: Gaming-First CPU

I don't even bother looking at 1080p benchmarks. I can't recall the last time I played at that res. So I don't care who is fastest. All I need to know is if the combo I'm planning on using will be rock solid at 1440p or higher

Cpu A and Cpu B both cost 200 euros. They both get 100 fps at 1440p. Cpu A though gets 220 fps in 1080p while Cpu B gets 500 fps in 1080p. Which one do you buy?

I was expecting this CPU since AMD first introduced it and it did not disappoint me, but since AM5 is coming out in the end of this year and my 3600x is still kicking really well, I will wait 1 more year at least. Good job anw Techspot

I think it's clear that the 5800X3D is more for existing AM4 owners who want a cheaper way of getting more performance than a full upgrade, if you already have a compatible AM4 Motherboard and DDR4 memory of 3200Mhz of faster then it's a no brained if you plan on getting a faster Graphics card in the future.

I built a 12700f build for a mate a few months back and the DDR5 memory was £20 more than the CPU lol, and if you're getting a 12600k or higher then you're best pairing it with a motherboard that supports DDR5, so these arguments about that the 5800X3D is poor value I don't get personally as an intel system would cost significantly more.

I'm currently on a Ryzen 5 3600 with a RTX 3060Ti and I'll probably look at replacing my system in a few years time when DDR5 drops to DDR4 levels of pricing.

No it wouldn't. A 12700f plus a ddr4 bazooka b660 + the stock cooler is almost the price of the 3d itself

For that upgrade you need to throw out your am4 motherboard. You are “upgrading” to a DDR4 platform from a DDR4 platform. And you have to go Intel. Yuck

40 games average 5800x3d trades blow with 12900k, for much cheaper, which is great for AM4 owners for an upgrade choice. AMD should take advantage of that on chip cache and find ways to accelerate content creation/productivity apps. This tech should be exploited.

The 7700k back in 2017 wasnt just trading blows with the 1800x in games, it was destroying it. Still it was a terrible cpu. Cant see how this is any different. Oh wait, it says amd on the box, k never mind

It is kind of funny that most people think that all Ryzen 1000, 2000 and 3000 users are currently using 3200/C14 or 3600/C16 memory.

Most are using trashy sub 3000 MHz memory with bad timings and they will never see the performance 5800X3D gets in reviews, which are all using 3200/14 or faster aka premium DDR4 memory. Hell most reviews are even using 3600/C16 or 4000/C18.

It would be pointless for most of these people to upgrade to this chip. For people building a new system, yeah maybe, maybe not. Alder Lake has superior perf/value but AM5 is coming in a few months and Raptor Lake soon after. 12600K is sub 200 dollars and can be paired with cheap DDR4 memory and still perform well.

Ryzen 5800X3D should probably have been launched last year instead, to be interesting for actual buyers.

I JUST HOPE that AMD will smack 3D CACHE on all (or most) of future Ryzen chips. However Intel is adding tons of cache to Raptor too.

Can't wait to see Ryzen 7000 vs Raptor.

However Ryzen 8000 vs Meteor is going to be the real battle in 2023.

Most people who will do a CPU upgrade do indeed have 3200Mhz RAM. So yeah, the 5800X3D makes perfect sense for them.

For the same reasons the 7700k was. Terrible in mt performance (loses to cpus VASTLY cheaper), terrible for single thread perfromance (again, loses to cpus vastly cheaper) and even in gaming performance it marginally edges out vastly cheaper cpus (the 12700 for example)

I think he has an issue running 6400 speeds in his 4dimm mobo. Most 4 dimm mobos have issues running ram that high. Mind you, techspot is the only site that the 12900 loses in farcry 6. Three other reviews tested with horrible ram (4400c38 and 4800c40) and had the 12900 winning easily.

So..yeah dunno.

No1 said 1800x was better, no1 mentioned 1800x at all ADL is intel's new gen arch using DDR5 ram. I'd say it getting a tie with AMD's 8 core cpu with DDR4 is not a good showing for intel's part. Because Raptor Lake will not a get a process bump but AMD will have a die shrink + new platform with DDR5.

Your arguments are simply invalid. AMD offers best choices on desktop for productivity apps and gaming (power consumption is simply superior). And still some people complain. Perhaps they were expecting 16-core CPU that beats all Intel CPU's one everything, consume 100 watts max and cost $100

AMD's server based CPU with 1.5 year old architecture beats Intel's desktop only architecture on games with much lower power consumption? What Intel still have? Moar cores with much higher power consumption. Yes, if there wasn't too many Intel fanboys on laptop and server markets, Intel would have been in trouble years ago.

Yes the 3d is marginally faster at low resolution gaming, gets blasted in everything else and yet its vastly more expensive. If this was an intel cpu you would be flaming the hell out of it.
