@ useless addy: you are close. I think you got the d610 as far as you can get it but safeguard is (as far as I know) a tool for harddisk encryption. I think you shold low level format the hdd and then install a fresh windows....

@ ziskon: there is no working shorting method for dx20 and above. the only chance is to find somebody who can provide you with a master password.

from what I read in other forums you can just boot the laptop with a cd and format the harddisk drive no matter if safeguard easy is installed or not.
if you want the data from this drive, thats maybe a problem. but for a fresh install just boot a windows cd and select format before you install....

safeguard does set a password on the drive which it prompts for when you try to boot from this drive. it is different from the harddisk password you can enable in the bios. you can check this with another harddisk drive. should work w/o problems...

I shall have to go out and buy a new hard drive, sometimes not sure if buying second hand is worth the effort.
Have an option on a d620 but after this not use if worth it??

you could also use an adapter and attach the safeguard protected drive to another computer and format it then. I would try to format the drive before buying a new one. did you try formatting it yet?
on the d620, well... I have a d820 and its a good laptop. If you have an option on a d620 then check for any passwords that can be set in the bios. everything else are problems that can be solved easily.

Well i successfully Removed the servicetag / password from this Inspiron 9200.

Found the 24c04n, jumped 4/5 for 1 second aprroximately 2 secondsa afterboot, then let go and touch again.

Got Manufacture Mode [01]

bla bla bla

poof! no password...

Now I have harddrive password! :(

Any one who can help

The chip is located on the underside of the laptop. (the bottom) It can be accessed by removing the RAM memory cover, and is located just under the lip of the plastic case.
Short circuit the the marked pins on 24c02 during booting. If this don´t work, short direct after you
pushed power. If this don´t work at first time, try it again and again.

plz see pictures, goodluck

The one you giving it is an illustration of dell c610 I was hoping that you could gave me a Dell Latitude D610....
