Researchers hit 112Gbps over wireless in a breakthrough that could shape 6G

100Gbps-class wireless communication could be the next big thing
Looking ahead: Researchers at Japan's Tokushima University, the University of Tokyo, and Gifu University have developed a terahertz wireless communication system capable of transmitting data at 112Gbps in the 560GHz band. This is significantly faster than the few-gigabit-per-second data rates typically achieved by conventional terahertz communication systems operating at similar frequencies.

Nvidia's plan to open-source 6G might be bad news for the companies that built 5G

Trouble ahead for Ericsson and Nokia?
The big picture: 6G is still years away from showing up in anyone's phone, but the fight over how it gets built is already underway. One big factor behind it is that it's expected to be far more reliant on AI than 5G ever was. Nvidia, for its part, has a pretty clear answer – it wants those networks running on its chips. And to get there, the company is leaning hard into something the telecom industry has historically wanted nothing to do with: open source.

LG makes successful 6G data transmission, tripling distance record

Forward-looking: 5G wireless networks are still in their infancy but that isn't stopping leading mobile experts from exploring what comes next. LG has demonstrated the wireless transmission and reception of 6G terahertz (THz) data over a distance of 320 meters outdoors. The feat took place at the Fraunhofer HHI in Berlin, Germany, on September 7 at a frequency range of 155 to 175 GHz.
