One AI task went from $0.30 to $0.0004 per question in a year and a half
Bottom line: AI models are getting cheaper to use at a pace that could reshape the advanced software market. A report from research firm Epoch AI finds that the cost of reaching a given level of AI performance has fallen by nearly 50% per quarter, or about 13 times per year. That is a faster rate of decline than the cost curves seen in lithium-ion batteries, DNA sequencing and computing hardware.
Forward-looking: The era of AGI has arrived – at least that's what OpenAI president Greg Brockman believes. He was talking about the launch of the company's latest model, GPT-6 Astra, which is being hailed as a "generational leap in capability," able to perform more tasks, faster. Its cybersecurity capabilities are so advanced that they meet OpenAI's "Critical" threshold. But don't worry, the company claims we won't, or shouldn't, see any more agents going rogue, probably.
LibreCAD is an open-source 2D CAD program focused on precise technical drafting. Commonly used for floor plans and mechanical drawings, it works primarily with DXF files and avoids the complexity of 3D CAD software. Lightweight, accurate, and subscription-free, it's a practical alternative to AutoCAD.
WTF?! In news that will likely elicit the use of the Professor Farnsworth "I don't want to live on this planet anymore" meme, this month will see the inaugural "Miss AI" beauty pageant take place. Judges – two human and two virtual models – will choose an AI-generated model in a competition that will be handing out thousands of dollars in prizes.
LibreCAD is a free computer-aided design application. Its interface is similar to AutoCAD, plus it uses the AutoCAD DXF format for importing and saving by default. It's available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
