Sounding off: Microsoft has often talked about turning Windows into an agentic OS, despite serious reservations from many quarters. Most Windows users are unhappy with the idea of AI taking greater control of their PCs, and they are once again making it clear to Redmond that they are not on board with the company's plans.
Why it matters: The "Update and shut down" option in Windows 10 and Windows 11 is meant to do just that – install any updates in the queue and then shut down your machine afterwards. In theory, the feature could be incredibly handy at the end of the work day or after a late night of gaming. By the next morning, your system should be loaded with the latest patches and ready for another session. In practice, however, it did not work like that.
Is 2026 the year Linux breaks through for PC gaming?
Game On: Compatibility between gaming applications and Linux operating systems keeps improving. According to recent statistics, most players can now expect to run the majority of their gaming sessions on an open source operating system. Only a few stubborn exceptions are still resisting this new reality.
The big picture: Microsoft is officially ending mainstream support for Windows 10 today, which means millions of devices still running the older OS will no longer receive new features, security updates, or technical assistance. However, all Windows 10 PCs will remain fully functional for now, and most apps and services are expected to continue supporting the legacy OS for at least a while longer.
Editor's take: After spending a few months in the preview phase, Windows 11 25H2 is now being rolled out to all eligible PCs. Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version as the best way to stay current, but most users will likely find the upgrade underwhelming.
Rufus 4.10 debuts a dark mode, also adds the ability to save USB drives as ISO files. The update also adds support for new Windows CA 2023 Secure Boot certificates, ensuring future-proof boot media ahead of upcoming Secure Boot changes, especially for Windows 11 25H2 installations.
Kali Linux 2025.3 introduces ten new tools, including AI-assisted scanning and car hacking utilities. It also restores Nexmon support for monitor mode and packet injection on Broadcom/Cypress Wi-Fi chips, including the Raspberry Pi 5. The update refreshes VM build scripts with HashiCorp tooling, while Kali NetHunter gains wireless injection, and more.
Forward-looking: What will Windows look like in five years? Unsurprisingly, Microsoft believes that AI will play an integral role. The company has published a video called Windows 2030 Vision in which it foresees the default interaction method with the OS being natural language. Microsoft says this will make "mousing around and keyboarding around and typing" in 2030 feel as alien as using DOS does to Gen Z today.
