iPhone crash detection saves Ohio teen who fell asleep at the wheel

In brief: While we hear lots of stories about devices' safety features being set off accidentally, there are plenty of incidents where they work as intended, potentially saving lives. Sixteen-year-old Lindsay Leskovac, for example, fell asleep behind the wheel of her truck, crashing the vehicle and breaking multiple bones and her spine. Apple's new MacBook may start at $599 with 12.9 inch display and iPhone 16 Pro chip

Low cost MacBook could target (and kill) Dell and HP's budget offerings
Why it matters: Apple is reportedly preparing to launch its most affordable MacBook yet – potentially starting at just $599 – in a move aimed squarely at the budget Windows laptop market. If true, it would mark Apple's most aggressive pricing play in the notebook space since the original MacBook Air redefined ultra-portable design in 2008, and could open macOS to a much broader audience than before.

Tim Cook says AI is now Apple's top priority, "bigger than the internet"

Cook compares AI to the launch of the Mac, iPhone, and iPad - calls it a make-or-break moment
Big quote: In a rare all-hands meeting at Apple's Cupertino headquarters, CEO Tim Cook made it clear to thousands of employees that AI now stands at the forefront of the company's ambitions. Addressing a packed auditorium following a stronger-than-expected earnings report, Cook called the AI transformation "as big or bigger" than the internet, the smartphone, cloud computing, and apps. "Apple must do this. Apple will do this. This is sort of ours to grab," Cook told staff, vowing, "We will make the investment to do it."
